Aptitude Test vs Adaptation Programme
If you’re an overseas-trained nurse planning to work as a nurse in Ireland, you’ll need to complete your NMBI (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) registration. There are two main pathways available — the RCSI Aptitude Test and the Adaptation Programme (Clinical Placement).

The Adaptation Programme, also known as the Adaptation and Assessment placement, offers hands-on experience in an approved Irish healthcare facility under supervision. It provides an opportunity to adapt to the Irish healthcare system and gain practical insight, though placement availability can sometimes delay the process.
Both routes ultimately lead to nurse registration with NMBI, opening doors to nursing jobs in Ireland across hospitals, nursing homes, and community care settings.
