The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) has released details of the Third Country Qualification Recognition (TCQR) Examination for 2026 and 2027. This examination is required for pharmacists who obtained their qualifications outside the European Union and wish to register and practise as pharmacists in Ireland.

Examination Structure

The examination consists of two components:

Part 1 – Multiple Choice Examination (MCQ)

The MCQ examination is divided into two sections:

Part A – Pharmaceutical Calculations; Assesses calculation skills required for pharmacy practice.

Part B – Applied Pharmacy Practice

  • Assesses knowledge and application of pharmacy practice principles.

  • Covers clinical, professional, and patient-centred aspects of pharmacy.

Important: Candidates must pass both Part A and Part B independently to successfully complete the MCQ component.

Part 2 – Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE)

The OSCE assesses clinical and professional skills through a series of structured, practice-based scenarios.

Candidates may be required to demonstrate:

  • Patient counselling skills

  • Clinical decision-making

  • Communication skills

  • Professional judgement

  • Safe pharmacy practice
